The Story

The history of this quaint hotel is quite intriguing. Constructed in 1901, the 333 sqm building was the brainchild of Haralabos Tsikaris, a prosperous merchant from Asia Minor. Lemnos remained under Turkish rule until 1912 when it was liberated by the Greek navy.

The ground floor served Haralabos well in his commercial pursuits, housing a store, warehouse, coffee shop, and his office. Meanwhile, the upper floor was the family's residence. Haralabos, married to Stamatina, had three sons and a daughter.

Unfortunately, Haralabos passed away in 1910. In a bid to safeguard the inheritance for her four young children, his widow married Dimitris Zavalakis, the business accountant. Zavalakis (pictured with the four children and Stamatina) not only preserved the existing estate but also expanded it, earning him a prominent position on the island. Visitors to Lemnos sought to meet him, gaining his favor. Prime Minister Eleftherios Venizelos, during his Lemnos visit, paid respects to Zavalakis at the house. The same occurred years later with George Papandreou, the governor of the North Aegean islands.

Following the passing of the last occupant, Anestis Tsikaris, one of the three sons, Archontiko Tsikari underwent careful renovation by the Tsikaris family descendants. Their aim is to continue the tradition of VIP hospitality, ensuring that each visitor becomes a VIP by definition.
